Joining UK league back on the agenda

Tuesday 9th March 2010, 2:30PM GMT.

Mark Le TissierGUERNSEY is set to have a team play in the UK leagues.

A sponsor is in place and the Guernsey Football Association are supporting the enterprise.

‘We have been invited to facilitate a “Guernsey FC” team which will compete in a UK league at an appropriate level which will test the island’s best players, coaches and administrators in terms of levels of technical ability, fitness, commitment and organisational skills,’ said GFA chairman Mark Le Tissier (pictured).

‘This should ultimately showcase Guernsey’s obsession with supporting competitive and well organised sport at an individual, team and corporate level.

‘I recognise that it is not the role of the association, nor does it have the infrastructure to run a football league team. However, it should facilitate any opportunity which will develop football in Guernsey for the benefit of its member clubs and affiliated teams, which this clearly does. Therefore, I will be working hard to achieve this.

‘I personally believe that this is an opportunity that can’t be missed if football is to be the “sport of choice” for the most talented young sportsmen in Guernsey.’
