Dr James RayTHE most harrowing thing he has seen is how Cobo Health Centre GP Dr James Ray described what confronted him in earthquake-stricken Haiti.

The 38-year-old father of four (pictured) spent nine days working in a tented hospital in Port-au-Prince.

He said his experiences were hard to describe.

‘It’s difficult to know what to expect when you go out to something like that.

‘I was trying to prepare myself for the worst possible situation, the worst possible sights and even the worse possible smells, but you just can’t prepare yourself enough.

‘It was brilliant to have been able to help and I feel that I did the best I could.

‘It was so surreal, but I am glad that I went.’

He travelled with International Medical Relief and worked in a team with one other doctor, 14 nurses and a number of non-medically trained aid workers.

Full respect to Dr Ray who had the courage to go and use his skill to help others despite the risks to himself, not to mention the emotional trauma of working in a disaster area. Well done sir.
