Issey makes semis

Issey Norman-RossISSEY NORMAN-ROSS upset the odds brilliantly to reach the semi-finals of the French Junior squash Open under-17 girls’ singles.

With 28 countries and 350 individual players in this French Super Series European Tour Open in Lille, the tournament promised to be tough for the two Guernsey girls, Norman-Ross and Natalie Dodd.

The unseeded Norman-Ross (pictured) had to go through a qualification round against French Marion Puard, whish she won comfortably, 11-7, 11-5, 11-5.

In the first round of the main draw, she came up against the No. 5 seed and European No. 4 from the Czech Republic, Denisa Peleskova and Norman-Ross managed to upset the seeding with a tough win in the fourth game.

Despite the Czech proving to be a challenging opponent, the Sarnian managed to dominate the rallies and although the games were tight Norman-Ross proved too strong in an 11-9, 7-11, 11-6, 12-10 win.
