A PIECE by a world-famous sculptor has been installed on Herm.
Another Time XI, by Antony Gormley, a figure of a solitary man, has been erected looking out towards Alderney on a rock at Le Petit Monceau.
It is part of the Art and Islands initiative, sponsored by HSBC Private Bank and Hiscox, which invites artists from all over the world to work in the Bailiwick.
Following the success of Mr Gormley’s installation, Lot, at Castle Cornet, International Artist in Residency Programme director Eric Snell asked the sculptor to put one of his works on Herm.
Mr Snell said it worked well in the wild surroundings.
‘The narrative depends on the location. The solitary figure is working with the concept of Herm and hermit looking outwards to the sea to nowhere and no one and just being battered by the weather.’

ha ha! I wonder how long before Alderney complains they are being spied on, or worse, being looked at.

What an honour for Herm to have one of Antony Gormley’s works installed on the Island. I look forward to seeing it in reality. In pictures it looks thought provoking and poignant. Brilliant!
