Missing Jonny’s friends bombard BBC Radio One

Friday 12th March 2010, 1:00PM GMT.

Jonny DoreyFRIENDS of a Guernsey student who has been missing in America for more than a week are bombarding BBC Radio One with requests for the station to take up their cause.

They have been sending the station text messages and emails en masse in an effort to spread the word regarding islander Jonny Dorey, 22 (pictured), who disappeared from Virginia Commonwealth University on Tuesday of last week.

The Facebook page that suggested the move read: ‘Here is the score, between 6.30am and 10am Thursday 11 March, and as close to 7.30am as possible, EVERYBODY needs to text in to BBC Radio One.’

This was intended to correspond with the timing of a particularly popular show but people continued sending messages through the day.

The Facebook campaign to raise awareness of Mr Dorey’s case has attracted thousands of members worldwide and social networking site Twitter is also being used to spread the word.

The message ‘Please-If you have a moment RT to find our friend #findJonnyDorey male Guernsey student missing in Richmond, VA. Thank-you,’ has been re-tweeted to feeds all over the world.
