IN THE sport of lawn bowls – or at least its indoor version – Guernsey are the kings of single-handed competition, while Jersey are better at team events.
So much is clear from the way the Channel Islands’ hopes are being carried in the British Isles Indoor Championships, which get under way at the Dewars Centre in Perth tomorrow.
With only one place for the Channel Islands in each discipline, Jersey have won the right to compete in six out of seven team events, while Guernsey players monopolise the men’s and women’s singles at senior and junior levels.
Alison Merrien, and husband Ian, may be in Australia, where they are playing for the Warilla club in New South Wales, but Lucy Beere and Lianna Bichard have qualified for a crack at the women’s senior and junior titles.
Dependable Gary Pitschou does battle in the men’s senior singles, and Todd Priaulx competes in the under-25 event.
