A TEAM of volunteers will be heading to Haiti on Friday to help with the relief effort.

Sarah Griffith, from the charity Bridge 2 Haiti, will be taking eight islanders to the earthquake-stricken country to help in a camp to which she travelled on a previous visit.

Nurses, a paramedic, a nursery school owner and a translator will join her on the two-week trip.

Yesterday, the team began packing the equipment and supplies, the majority of which have been donated.

Ms Griffith said many businesses had helped, with Aurigny allowing them to take double the usual baggage allowance, B&Q supplying tools and Longcamps Tennis Centre supplying clothes.

The St John Ambulance and Rescue Service has given some of its old equipment and one woman knitted toys for them to take out.
