Vance plan for ‘footy’ feast

Thursday 18th March 2010, 2:30PM GMT.

Tony VanceTONY VANCE is very keen to be the first boss of Guernsey FC – but he does not want to see the side’s progress harm the domestic league.

The island manager is convinced that adjustments should be made to the Division One fixture schedule to prevent regular club v. country rows and resentment by players, clubs and fans.

But it can work easily enough, he is sure of that.

‘It is imperative that whoever is the coach has a good relationship and good communication with the club managers,’ he said yesterday.

‘The success of the project as far as Guernsey FC and the clubs [are concerned] is that both are treated with the same level of respect. It is vital that the Guernsey league remains competitive and the winners win not by default but on merit and represent us well in the Upton.’

Vance (pictured) has been looking at the current schedule and believes that clashes can be minimised.

Good news for all players in the league as this is surely going to require more than the 15-20 players in the current island squad. If Tony Vance coaches this side it will also boost our chances for the Muratti each year.
Downside must be for any Tics players with ambitions of playing for Guernsey. If they are going to play in an English league for Tics (I presume this is still their plan?), they will be unable to play for “Guernsey FC” which is likely to give themselves less chance of being picked for Guernsey squads for NLS Cup / Island Games / Muratti etc? I may be wrong, but just a thought.
