Friday 19th March 2010, 2:30PM GMT.

Heather WatsonHEATHER WATSON could face Serena Williams or any of the world’s other superstars on court in Miami next week.

The Guernsey girl has managed to secure a wild card into the main draw of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour in Key Biscayne, which starts on Monday.

As a premiere-mandated WTA women’s event only just below the Grand Slam tournaments, this is a huge break for Watson, the Sportingbet-backed youngster currently ranked 484 in the world.

The opportunity and wild card comes courtesy of IMG, her management company which owns and runs the tournament.

‘This is the biggest event of her career to date and a very good opportunity for Heather to compete alongside the best in the world in women’s tennis,’ said her mother, Michelle.

‘There will be big [ranking] points up for grabs too, she said.
