Now that Public Services is to charge for its bulk refuse collection scheme some unwanted large items such as soft furnishings can be taken to Mont Cuet, but people will have to pay a small charge.

PUBLIC SERVICES is to introduce charges for the States Bulk Refuse Scheme.

From 6 April, islanders will have to pay £15 for general collections.

The service is currently free and has for the past 15 years provided disposal of domestic items that are too large to fit in a car, including beds, furniture, kitchen appliances and boilers.

People have previously been allowed to put three items out for free collection, but the new charge will cover up to five items.

Last year, more than 6,500 collections were made.

The change is one of many that the Public Services are introducing to the scheme.

Anyone who wants to have a vehicle collected and taken to the scrap yard on their behalf will have to pay £30.

Many items covered under the scheme can still be dropped off free at Longue Hougue Waste Recycling Facility.

Others, such as soft furnishings, can be taken to the Mont Cuet site, but people will have to pay a small charge.

Maybe there will be fly tipping across the island with these charges.
And maybe more burnt out cars.
Look at the problem in England.
Danger, Greed from the States as normal.

Take all the money we have left, Or some don’t have.
This island is getting more like England, How many people can take it before we all leave this rock.

there needs to be an individual board of island residents possibly refreshed with new people each quarter that can speak for the views of the average person. Not all of us earn £100k + each year. There is a difference in what the 10% of us can effort compared to the rest. Maybe a separate group of people for each parish.

I thought I read it was still free to take it yourself to Longue Hougue. If you can put it in your car to fly tip surely you can put in your car to take to Longue Hougue?

If people are capable of loading their rubbish into a car and then fly-tipping it somewhere surely they could just take it to the reclamation site themselves which – unless I have this wrong – will not cost them anything?

Getting rid of cars is a different matter of course but I don’t think £30.00 is too much to pay for this service.

Can anyone tell me WHO is responsible and stupid enough in the states to think of charging £15 for collection. Lets have a name please so nobody votes the idiot in again for the next election….Also an address would be good so I can dump my 5 items on their lawn and they can pay the £15…..Hope the states member is reading these valuable links!

Well I’ll be told that it’s on it’s way then the radio operator will wait 10 minutes before chasing up my taxi.

Would probably cost more than £15 too, maybe I will be better off sticking with Bulk Refuse after all…

I think the people of Guernsey, must be the most tolerant in the world, ( or most stupid)
You rant on about these so-called politicians , and that’s all.

Demand they listen; and at next voting day, do as they do at a darts match,
    WIPE THE SLATE CLEAN!

That’s all very well. We can get rid of the total prats in two years time but what about the damage they can do in the meantime ?

    Oh I agree Ray!
However, one can always go to their meetings, and tell them what you think.

There are many ways in which these miscreants can be silenced– think about it-
But please no threats or nasty remarks, but let them know that either they be re-elected, and then suffer the consequences of their misdemeanor, or they will once again have to live amongst us.
That cannot be so easy to live with.

But people must wake up and no more of (Oh but he/she is so nice)

So let me get this right. You want the deputies to resign because they won’t pick up your fridges, settees, matresses and cars for free?

    Come off it Jackie
You know darned well what is meant by any words about further taxes, (stealth Taxes) for that is what it amounts to.

It is the duty of any governing body to provide adequate facilities for removing of rubbish, otherwise disease can break out and that will cost an arm and a leg to be rid of.

It must surely come out of the taxes already levied.
Why cant the States play the game and introduce a scheme for such actions?

It is clear to see the something for nothing brigade is alive & well on this thread. All the ranters need to see this for what it is. A small contribution towards a scheme that has cost everybody considerably for a long time.

Those that are shy when it comes to parting with their cash have the option of making their own plans & logistics to get to the reclamation sites.

I would suggest £15 is very economical for such a service. Instead of whinging try & see if anybody would offer a cheaper alternative.

The simple answer is nobody would because there would not be any profit in such a small outlay.

Islanders have had things good for a long time now. All good things come to an end. It’s the way things are across the board in all sectors.

If this is such an injustice then maybe it offers a business enterprise for any islander that enjoys hard physical labour for little reward other than the knowledge they are doing something worthwhile for their homeland.

    Any takers then?
