Jersey weary of Alderney task
Saturday 20th March 2010, 2:29PM GMT.
JERSEY could field a couple of new caps this afternoon as they travel to face Alderney for the right of meeting Guernsey in this season’s Kleinwort Benson Muratti Vase final.
The Reds’ manager Jon Welsh has announced a squad of 18 for the trip to the northern isle, but is waiting on fitness news on midfielder Chris Andrews and striker Craig Leitch before naming his starting XI.
Former Jersey under-18s coach Welsh is in charge of the senior side this season for the first time, but has experience of Muratti semi-finals at Mount Hale having been assistant manager to former managers Dave Kennedy and Peter Vincenti in recent years.
Welsh said: ‘They were both difficult games and it will be no different on Saturday afternoon. Alderney are difficult opponents on their home pitch and we will approach the match giving Alderney every respect.
‘Jersey are expected to win so if there is any pressure it is on us. But I’m confident that if we play to the best of our ability then we will win.’
