THE Guernsey women’s hockey team are raring to try and regain the inter-insular today.

The Sarnians lost last year’s encounter 1-0 at Foote’s Lane when they were out-muscled by a powerful Jersey side.

Lisa Phillips scored with a straight strike at a short corner within the first 10 minutes and the visitors were just too strong to break down.

Guernsey are going into this season’s match at Les Quennevais with a new management team of the well-respected Elizabeth College teacher David Wray as coach and Emma Hughes as team manager.

The pair have been putting the first team through their paces.

‘The squad have trained hard all season and are looking forward to the inter-insular,’ said captain Micky de Vial.

‘The introduction of David Wray as coach and Emma Hughes as manager has added a new dimension to the way we play.

‘We have a very cohesive team, who work hard for each other and are really relishing the opportunity to play a good game against Jersey, who are always a tough opposition.’
