IT WAS a case of so close yet so far for the Guernsey women’s hockey team in the inter-insular at Les Quennevais on Saturday.
The Greens had taken a first-half 1-0 lead over Jersey, who have dominated the annual clash for close to 10 years.
But despite putting in a valiant effort, the Reds once again came out on top.
‘It was a close run thing,’ said Guernsey captain Micky de Vial afterwards.
‘We had lots of shots but unfortunately we couldn’t get it into the back of the net. We definitely had more chances than in previous years.
‘Of course, I’m disappointed, but we actually played well as a team so I’m very happy with them.’
