Islands close to agreeing Brussels deal
Wednesday 24th March 2010, 2:30PM GMT.
A PAN-ISLAND office in Brussels could be open by June, according to Chief Minister Lyndon Trott (pictured).
He was on a panel at a seminar yesterday to debate the findings of the Chamber of Commerce and Young Business Group’s business trends survey.
He told the audience that States chief executive Mike Brown and his Jersey equivalent were in Brussels sorting out an agreement.
‘They are putting together the final details of the business plan and we would anticipate it progressing very rapidly, perhaps as quickly as the beginning of June.
‘They have to go through the Treasury and Resources Department to make sure they are in line with the States decision in relation to the States Strategic Plan, but that should be a formality.’
Deputy Trott added that establishing a Brussels office showed that Guernsey and Jersey could work together.

I may be wrong but I think I have spotted him under a different screen name. Not 100% sure yet though.
This site needs a lift & he makes stopping by worthwhile & adds massively to the entertainment value.

Nope, still Arnald. Lurking, not posting….

….but,
Are the governments of Guernsey and Jersey preparing a co-operative approach to lobby against the spirit of the recently passed EU Resolution, linked below, that includes:
“MEPs warn that “the negative impact of tax havens may be an insurmountable hindrance
to economic development in poor countries”, because it undermines national tax systems
and increases the cost of taxation.”?

As a Guernsey voter, I would like to know how much the States members know about the issues concerning the effect that the ‘sophisticated’ financial services industry that ‘punches above our weight’ on a global stage is having on the development, policy direction, and ultimately the democratic principle, in those countries we attract ‘business’ from.
Have any of our politicians asked if our hosting of this industry, in Guernsey’s name, includes the administration of instruments such as the widely reviled Sovereign Debt ‘Vulture Funds’?
Interesting to note the passion of Trott’s triumphalism at meeting UK Conservatives while one of their members has just scuppered a Private Members Bill (shamefully obscuring themselves from identification) to get these atrocities outlawed in England.
Still, if it means someone can buy a new car or get their conservatory upgraded, who cares?

Not wanting to make your blood boil or nothing here Arnold. I have heard, through the grapevine, this is being strategically set up with the intention of financing arms & reinstating deals through Guernsey & Jersey.
A co-operative between the islands which would strengthen the positions of both in a very lucrative industry.
Your far superior understanding & knowledge on these issues would be able able to get closer to the truth of the facts that mine though.
Word on the street has it that many private mercenary companies have been contributing to the record annual finance figures for as long as the wars broke out in Iraq & Afghanistan.
With no freedom of information & all the secrecy shrouding mechanisms the financiers use who could say for sure?
It’s good to see you have stepped out of the shadows man.
