A ST Peter Port trader has been left puzzled after two of the letters from its shop sign were stolen.
The J and E were taken from Albany Jewellers in Market Street over the weekend and Vanessa Le Tissier has no idea what was behind the theft.
‘My window cleaner pointed it out yesterday morning. He noticed there was a ladder leaning up against the front of the shop at around 7am and that was when he saw the letters were gone,’ said Mrs Le Tissier.
She said other traders in the area had seen the ladder against the shop front on Sunday.
‘I’m mystified by it all. I don’t know whether they are trying to rename us or maybe someone needed a J and E to finish off some wording of their own,’ said Mrs Le Tissier.
If anyone has any information, phone the station on 725111 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

I’d be watching the next appearance of X-Factor’s John and Edward for suspiciously large pendants!

This constant vandalism of one form or another is utterly sickening in this island. Surely the police have SOME idea of who the culprits might be, do they ever get any convictions?
There’s CCTV around every corner in town, surely they can look at that?
Rather than chase the ‘J’ & ‘e’ why don’t they look for the obvious culprit?
Someone called ‘weller’, perhaps even Albany Weller. It’s staring you in the face !!

Thought all high value shops had CCTV cameras on either corner of building? They have over here in uk.
wheres the cctv when you need them and being in town that area should be covered ,also where were the police do they not patrol around that area
Report abuse
In the UK this jewellers would have been robbed, in Guernsey they just nick part of the sign. It’s not all that bad.
And Matti, why would the police have ‘SOME idea’ who had done this? I think your attack on the capabilities of our police force is completely unwarranted.

I agree Sharon.
The Police SHOULD have been there
They should also have been at the Corbet Field, the Little Chapel, the Bridge Candy Shop, the golf greens.
They should position themselves to prevent all burglaries, assaults, shoplifting, vandalism
What is the matter with our Police Force ?

I wonder if I’ll be on the suspects list, given my name is James?
Lucky for me my last name isn’t Edwards…

what are you taliking about?? Police go on patrol they cant be everywhere at once, the point your missing is that numerous other crimes have been haulted or prevented due to a police presence arriving, even if the policemen didnt know about it.
They have CCTV around that area you can see the cameras, pro job i would say, use of ladder and tools to remove sign.
I dont think you can start having a dig at the police and saying they should be here or there. “Sorry sir we couldnt get to town to investigate the assault as we had one unit in st andrews making sure no one goes into the little chappel and another two units down lancresse.”
The whole system fails as when individuals are prosecuted the punishment rarely is in line with the crime.

Not wanting to be one of the regular knockers of our “boys in blue” but I would have thought that maybe a ladder up against the front of a Jewelers may have prompted some interest from them?
