‘Cross’ stars travel

WITH January’s county championship being cancelled, Guernsey’s distance runners have been largely starved of external competition but will be travelling en-masse to Jersey this weekend for the annual inter-insular cross-country championships.
The new Le Creux course, near St Brelade, promises a mix of relatively flat sections with a steep dip and climb at the end of each 2.5km lap.
Guernsey’s men have dominated their event for the last 15 years but the women’s competition has been a much closer affair and while Jersey have had the upper hand in recent years it has always been a competitive affair and GIAAC travel this year with very high hopes.
‘This years women’s event probably boasts the strongest line-up ever,’ said GIAAC’s endurance officer Paul Ingrouille (pictured).
‘There are seven or eight runners in the field that would push for county places,’ he added.
