IT NEVER rains but it pours.
After the huge blow of losing Paul Le Tocq less than 48 hours before the Gilson Cup match at the badminton halls at the Rohais, within the opening game Guernsey had lost captain Darren Le Tissier to injury, too.
If trying to regain the old trophy from Jersey was going to be tough beforehand, the task had been made virtually impossible – and so it turned out.
However, being the sportsman he is, Le Tissier simply paid tribute to the visitors after they had secured another convincing victory.
‘They were the better side today,’ said the Guernsey captain. ‘It’s true that injuries have not helped us, but that’s no excuse.’
Jersey’s delayed arrival caused the match to start 30 minutes late, but soon it was the home side who were on the back foot as they lost Le Tissier to a pulled muscle, which will cause him to miss the Easter Open event at the weekend.
