Time for voting on Bailiwick fishing deal
Monday 29th March 2010, 2:29PM BST.
GUERNSEY, Alderney and Sark will soon vote on an agreement to manage the Bailiwick’s fishing waters if the 12-mile limit is restored.
In 2007 the Ministry of Justice said it would allow the islands, in principle, to introduce licensing from three to 12 miles around the Bailiwick islands but the governments first had to agree how to manage them.
The three islands agreed terms last year to establish a Bailiwick Fisheries Management Commission for supervising the three to 12 mile limit. Sark’s Chief Pleas will vote on the agreement next month and Guernsey and Alderney will follow in the near future.
A Commerce and Employment spokesman said an agreement was necessary if the 12-mile limit was to be restored.
