GIAAC’S senior distance runners were on top form at the annual cross-country on the new Les Creux course in Jersey.
The new circuit produced a familiar looking men’s result of strong Guernsey domination, as well as the pleasing sight of Louise Perrio ending Jo Gorrod’s long sequence of victories in the women’s event to claim her first Channel Islands cross-country title.
It was a great day for the Sarnian women all-round.
Martine Scholes was a fine third, Sarah Mercier fifth and Kerry Robin an excellent sixth to win back the team trophy.
In typically brave style, Gorrod started the 7.5km women’s event quickly and on the slightly smaller of the three loops built up a 30m lead, but Perrio had closed this down just after the start of the first of two larger 2.7km laps.
Meanwhile Scholes was in a close battle with Jersey’s Claire Forbes for third, while Sarah Mercier was already clear in fifth and Robin was on the tail of a pack Jersey runners in 11th.
