THE Guernsey Football Association are pushing for the final of the FA Carlsberg National League System Cup to be played in the island.

And, encouragingly for local fans, it seems that the English FA are keen to oblige.

The island side, playing under the guise of the Guernsey Senior County Division One, came from behind to defeat the Dorset Premier League in a pulsating semi-final at the Corbet Field on Saturday.

A crowd of more than 600 created a wonderful atmosphere.

It was already decided prior to this fixture that the winners would probably host the final.

The chairman of the GFA, Mark Le Tissier, said he is waiting on confirmation from the FA as to whether Guernsey will be given the honour or whether it will be played in a football league stadium in England.

To give ourselves any chance at all, Footes Lane should be avoided like the plague! I’ll never watch football there ever again after seeing the lake atmosphere and lack of character. I can’t understand why the Corbet Field can’t be used for the final but can be for other rounds? The way the GFA structures our own leagues hinders us no end without staging important matches at souless venues.
