POSTERS asking for information about local student Jonny Dorey, who has been missing for a month in the USA, are to be distributed by Guernsey Post.

The 22-year-old went missing a month ago yesterday from his college campus in the USA. Since then a huge manhunt has been under way for the geography exchange student at Virginia Commonwealth University in state capital Richmond.

A Facebook group set up to help find him has more than 25,000 members.

Some of his belongings, believed to be a backpack and clothing, were found last Wednesday on the north bank of the James River. Since then police and rescue teams have focused their attention on that area.

A Guernsey Post spokesman said it was pleased to support the search. ‘We pride ourselves on our strong sense of community involvement and responsibility and recognise we are in a unique position with a delivery network across the island.

Family spokesman Bob Beebe said it was a difficult time for the family and everyone involved in the search.

‘It is every parent’s worst nightmare and a harrowing time for the family. They are finding it deeply distressing,’ he said.

‘Jonny’s parents want to thank all the friends and the media for their support and for respecting their privacy at this time.’

Mr Beebe said it was too early to speculate when Mr Dorey’s family might return to Guernsey.

‘They are still totally focused on the search,’ he said.
