A SPECIAL talent produced a very special run yesterday as the KPMG Easter Festival came to a record-breaking conclusion.

Steph Twell, already an Olympian but not yet 21, absolutely annihilated the women’s all-comers’ course record for the Easter half-marathon based on a loop of the north end of the island, starting and finishing at the Albert Pier.

The previous mark of 74min. 55sec. set in 2007 by Twell’s Aldershot, Farnham and District teammate Suzie Bush was slashed by almost three minutes exactly as Twell cruised over the line in 71-56.

She was delighted and quickly vowed to be back, when no doubt she will threaten her new standard.

‘I wanted to run roughly 5-30 to 5-40 miles,’ Twell said. ‘Ideally, as the first few miles had no head wind, we – my coach and I – thought we would try and stick to 5-30s early on.’
