MEPHEDRONE is implicated in violence, crime and death in Guernsey, according to a UK Government report.

And the island’s problem with the substance also reached the House of Lords this week.

The report by the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs given to Home Secretary Alan Johnson said the former ‘legal high’ has sparked violent crime in the island, is being injected as an alternative to intravenous heroin and has even been detected in a local post mortem.

The report signed by Professor Les Iversen contained a number of mentions of the situation in the island.

‘One case on Guernsey has provided positive post mortem toxicology results for mephedrone and is awaiting inquest,’ he said.

Another section said local Customs had reported an increase in the prevalence of mephedrone from seizures.
