ROD ELMY made a dream return to inter-insular volleyball at Beau Sejour.
The old master played a starring role and shared the player-of-the-match award with team-mate Ross Martel-Welsh as Guernsey won back the inter-island trophy in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-22, to finish off a great day of action which had started badly for the home island but ended with smiles all round and wins in the two main matches.
As the two men’s A sides took to the court, the notable difference was the height advantage of the Jersey side with all but one of their players over 6ft 2in. inch tall.
This clearly was of no relevance to the Guernsey side, who came out all guns blazing.
The effectiveness of the block was clearly going to play a significant part in this match and it was demonstrated in the first few points of the game, with each side having successful blocks.
