A DOCTOR who has twice completed the Marathon des Sables has vowed he will never again tackle the event billed as ‘the toughest footrace on earth’.

Dr Steve Evans, a consultant at the Medical Specialist Group, returned yesterday from the gruelling 156-mile marathon across the Moroccan Sahara.

He was raising money for Hope for Guernsey, for which he has collected more than £25,000 through a series of challenges.

‘It was hot,’ said the 45-year-old.

‘Temperatures were up to 53C on one of the days. Apparently it was the longest and hottest it had ever been. You just had to get on and deal with it really.’
