Wednesday 14 April

Wednesday 14th April 2010, 10:00PM BST.

Today’s campaigning started rather surreally. Our candidate for the Islington South parliamentary seat is Antonia Cox and she was asked to a live TV debate presented by Kay Burley from Sky News with the candidates from the other main parties.

This was taking place in Exmouth Market, which is in our ward, so myself and Pauline, another of the candidates, went there to give our support.

We were ushered onto a cafe table with Antonia and the others and had to sit still and in silence for half an hour as we were providing the ‘backdrop’.

Spent the evening furiously stuffing envelopes and sorting them by street name. Wait. It wasn’t as bad as it sounds. Pauline is a pub landlady so we all got fed free food and drinks while watching the Spurs v. Arsenal game on a large plasma television. Sometimes this campaign does have its advantages.

In fact, it was all going quite well until I discovered a spelling mistake on one of the batches of letters which naturally was the one I had spent half the night working on. I predict another morning of fighting with the printing machine ahead of me…
