LEALE’S YARD should get the go-ahead, but on a smaller scale, consultants asked to study Guernsey’s retail market have said.
Roger Tym and Partners this morning released its report recommending improving the retail sector by developing Leale’s Yard, consolidating Town, and immediately looking to the future progression of St Peter Port’s retail environment.
‘The principle of a mixed use environment at Leale’s Yard is good, but that must be brought forward in a way that is complementary to Town, which must remain central and accessible to the whole island community,’ said Mike Holliss, partner at Roger Tym and Partners.
Commerce and Employment commissioned the review to help develop an ‘overarching strategy’ for the sector.

I quite agree with you Gwen.
These consultants, who have offices in all the major cities (didn’t see St Peter Port listed, tho…) and who have been here just long enough to formulate this plan, are obviously far more qualified and possess a far deeper knowledge of the situation than anyone who’s actually lived here for a period of time.
I can only hope that on their way back to London to invoice us local morons for all their quality advice, they take the opportunity to walk down the High Street and witness the closed shops, unhappy retailers and lack of shoppers, clear evidence, as far as I’m concerned, that what we really need is yet another retail centre…!
