Disruptions could hit a packed weekend
Friday 16th April 2010, 2:29PM BST.
THE volcanic ash from Iceland which has halted all flights in and out of the UK could play havoc with an action-packed weekend of Channel Islands sport.
A full schedule of sporting events in the Channel Islands is planned for today, tomorrow and Sunday and they now look to be in jeopardy.
The biggest event taking place in the island is the Guernsey Swimming Club’s OCS 19th Open International Guernsey Masters Meet at Beau Sejour.
A total of 151 swimmers from 34 different clubs are due to take part with more than 100 coming from southern Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Scotland, Jersey and England.
‘It is a worry – I’ve had that telephone ringing all day,’ said meeting organiser John Eyre (pictured) yesterday.
