A COUPLE are fighting to create a parking space at their St Peter Port home.
The Environment Department turned down CJ and Nicki Greenslade’s application to create one on their property which is in a conservation area, a tribunal heard.
Mr and Mrs Greenslade had applied to demolish their garden wall and a section of the roadside wall, to create vehicle access and a parking area. Their appeal against the refusal in October centres on there being no place to park outside their Dalgairns Road home.
The couple, who represented themselves, said that having a parking space on their property would benefit not only them but others. Mrs Greenslade said that they thought having their own parking space would deter people from parking in front of it and leave the narrow section clear of obstruction.
However, Environment planning officer Julian Pentland, representing the department, said that road safety was a traffic control issue and not a planning one.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
The problem here is that they are normal Guernsey people with a reasonable request to do something that is of no offense to anyone. If they were wanting to add to the fast food strip look of the area above the town church they would probably get their way.
No worries about conservation area status there.
After all, we can go on selling postcards with pictures of the town center as it was to show our respect for the dignity of Guernseys tradition and history for a long time.
