Saturday 17 April
Saturday 17th April 2010, 10:00PM BST.
One of the things I’ve been paying even more attention to than normal over the last few weeks has been the weather.
You might think that sunny weather is a good thing for our campaigning. Well actually that’s not true at all.
While we obviously don’t really want to be out and about in snow or hail the great conditions we’ve been having mean that people are less likely to be in when we call round to canvass them – either in the evenings or the weekends.
This afternoon we knocked on the doors of over 200 flats in one building but only about 10 people were in. Don’t they know there’s an election on?!
On election day itself the Conservative Party has traditionally done well when the weather has been bad. I had better start practising some sort of rain dance…
This morning we planned on holding a street stall at Exmouth Market, a popular area in the Ward, but we soon found out that the majority of shoppers were from out of the area so we decided to do some leaflet delivery for large blocks of flats in the area.
One of our team has a ‘drop key’ used by firemen to get into these blocks to save time. Not strictly kosher but then the alternative is to wait around on the off-chance someone is coming in or out.
