Top seeds made to work
Saturday 17th April 2010, 2:29PM BST.
TOP two seeds Martin Sarre and Phil Hunkin will face each other in the final of the annual island championships veterans singles after they both successfully navigated their way through the draw.
Sarre came through as a 4-0 winner over the tournament’s eighth seed, Maurice James, in the quarter-finals, but was made to work hard in his semi-final against GTTA president and sixth seed Derek Webb.
The latter opened a two- game advantage before Sarre managed to find his form to complete a 4-2 victory and justify his place as the number one seed for the event which kicked off this year’s champoionship week.
Hunkin (pictured) on the other hand, was severely tested in his quarter-final clash against fifth seed Tim Le Page.
