BELS failed in their bid for their third straight Upton victory in Guernsey as St Paul’s retained their crown on Saturday.
Coach Craig Culkin had every right to be beaming with pride after watching his Jersey champions dispatch their Guernsey counterparts 3-1 at the Track in a match delayed by four hours due to the travel disruptions.
Saints dominated the first half and led 2-0 at the break through goals from Scott Devlin and Luke Watson.
Bels halved the deficit just before the hour mark with a goal credited to Sam Cochrane, although it was arguably an own goal, and then pressed hard for an equaliser.
However, St Paul’s withstood the pressure and wrapped up the game with a sublime third goal scored by Mark Lucas.
