Volunteers saddened as founder calls time on her animal charity
Monday 19th April 2010, 2:29PM BST.
ANIMAL Aid’s longest-serving young volunteer has spoken of his sadness at hearing that the charity was closing down.
Arran Robinson, 15 (pictured), has been helping out at the rescue shelter on Forest Road for four years and is there most days.
‘I’ll miss Sue and all of the people up here and working with the animals and doing what I most enjoy,’ he said.
Founder Sue Vidamour announced last week that the charity would be closing down after 13 years, citing health problems and her disillusionment with the island’s animal welfare policy.
The charity is no longer taking in animals and the centre at Tudor Lodge and Deer Farm will close on 2 May.
Les Beaucamps High student Arran said his dream would be to open his own animal sanctuary.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
A small community like Guernsey should be able to afford excellent animal welfare policies.
After all those who are cruel to animals are invariably cruel to people too.
There is no excuse for poor policy in this area so Deputies need to sort it out. They are hardly in danger of loosing public support if they champion this topic are they?

Doug, if I’m not mistaken there are already laws against animal cruelty – and rightly so.

We already have the excellently run GSPCA Animal Shelter. I hope that people divert their funding to the GSPCA if they have previously been helping animal aid.
@Doug, sadly until people respect each other there is little chance they will respect animals. thats why animal cruelty exists. I have always wondered why people want to make sure that the animals are better off? People harp on about animal cruelty but there are people in the world who need help first.
(lastly i have no connections through work or family with either the GSPCA or Animal Aid so i can rule out bias through loyalties, however after havig dealt with both i know where my money would go everytime)

Whats the latest news on this closure as since the big announcement in the Press there has been no follow up?
Where is the list of animals to be rehomed?
Also why would you hold an open day on 2nd may when there will be no animals to look at?
Its all very strange dont you think?

R the list of animals were listed. This is new news about a open day!are you sure you have got your facts right or is this just another rumour trying to be created by you. Also why dont you pick up the phone and find out what animals are left for rehoming if your interested in taking one in.

Coco i think you will find that the animals listed in the centre spread were not all for rehoming it was merely a list of residents at the centre, i know this because i contacted Animal Aid at the time to enquire about giving a home to certain animals.
Perhaps if you refer back to the Guernsey Press on Friday 16th April you will see this for yourself.
I am not trying to create a rumour and to my Knowledge my post above is not creating a rumour i am trying to find out the facts!
Also if you look on the same spread in the Guernsey Press on Friday 16th April you will see that this also announced an open day on 2nd May where they will be welcoming all vistors free of charge. There will be a sale of equipment.
Perhaps you should check your information Coco before you start accusing innocent people!!
I have tried calling and also emailing about the pets requiring a home but have not yet had a response.
