World’s photography greats are coming to Guernsey

Tuesday 20th April 2010, 2:29PM BST.

Jean-Christophe GodetFOUR of the world’s top photographers will be in the island next month for the first Guernsey Photography Festival.

Joseph Koudelka, who made his name documenting the 1968 Soviet invasion of Prague, will be opening the festival on Monday 3 May, while Simon Norfolk, Judah Passow and Tim Hetherington will all be displaying work and hosting public lectures.

The festival, which is sponsored by Generali Worldwide and PPF Partners, is the brainchild of Guernsey resident and photographer Jean-Christophe Godet.

‘I’d like to prove that it is possible to have a festival of this scale in Guernsey,’ said Mr Godet (pictured).

‘I would like to see Guernsey become a cultural platform.  People are used to visiting Guernsey as a beautiful holiday destination but never as a cultural destination.’
