Ash cloud postpones Indian marketing
Wednesday 21st April 2010, 2:30PM BST.
THE island’s first official marketing activity in India has had to be postponed because of the chaos caused by the volcanic ash cloud spreading from Iceland.
A delegation of officials and business leaders was due to be led by Commerce and Employment minister Carla McNulty Bauer and its schedule included a series of meetings with Indian counterparts in Delhi and Mumbai over the course of two weeks, starting from last weekend.
But as a result of the flight cancellations, meetings with bodies that included the Indian Stock Exchange, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce and the Indian regulator will now not take place until later this year.
GuernseyFinance chief executive Peter Niven (pictured), who was also to have been on the trip, said the delay was frustrating but there was not much else they could do.
‘It’s not just about getting on a plane in London, it’s about us getting to London as well. It’s doubly difficult.’
