Sarnians’ singles struggle
Wednesday 21st April 2010, 2:29PM BST.
GARY PITSCHOU and Steve Desperques were beaten in straight sets in both their group matches in Ayrshire yesterday, and have probably lost their chance of qualifying for tomorrow’s WIBC World Championships men’s singles quarter-finals.
Pitschou (pictured), however, proved his worth last night when he teamed up with England’s Sarah Seymour and pulled off a great win over home favourites Caroline Brown and Andy Furye in the mixed pairs, 10-7, 10-5.
They need to win at least one of their two matches today for a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.
In the singles, Pitschou lost 4-11, 5-8, to Ireland’s Mark McPeak, and 4-10, 4-6, to Scots-born Welsh ace Mike Dick. Desperques lost to Jersey’s Jamie Macdonald, 3-6, 3-5, and to Scotland’s Andy Furye, 1-15, 3-11.
