The Vale site, owned by the Komedera family, was built in 1989 and now comprises 14 light industrial units.
Anthony Komedera, son of the late Mitch, who with his wife, Joanna, moved to Guernsey in the late 1970s, said the refurbishment was needed mainly because it is so close to the northern coastline and its salt-laden air.
Improvements included the outer skins of the units being replaced, along with the guttering, windows and sliding doors, while insulation has also been improved.
Mr Komedera said one of the biggest challenges was carrying out the six-month job while tenants such as Elite Business Services, Scope Furnishing, Evans and Co and Archivist kept working.

i am so disappointed with the centre. We need to keep the high street alive with business. If we don’t do this who will?

Alan – how does this affect the High Street?
The Barras Centre is for light industry, you don’t tend to find those on any High Street – which is usually dominated by retail.

Paul – light industry?
A stationer, two furnishers and an archivist…at least three of those on most High Streets it seems to me.
