MORE recycling means St Peter Port residents’ refuse rates have not gone up.
Refuse rates were one subject discussed by St Peter Port parishioners, who met at Les Cotils last night to vote on the parish accounts.
The total expenditure approved by the parish was £336,975.42, including items brought by the rector and churchwardens.
Resident Frank Besnard questioned what the incentive was to continue to recycle when the refuse rates had not gone down – but secretary to the parish constables Ray Le Poidevin said it was down to increased recycling in Town that there had been no rise in the fee.
‘This year, for the first time, the parish has significantly reduced the amount of rubbish put out which has meant the refuse rates have not gone up this year, despite the fact there has been a £10 per ton gate fee increase,’ said Mr Le Poidevin.
