A NEW era is set for one side after tomorrow’s Stranger Cup final between Sylvans and Guernsey Athletics.

While the Westerners are aiming for their first senior silverware under Clive Bateman, Tics are likewise looking for success in their first season back in Guernsey football after nearly 50 years out.

In fact, it is their third consecutive Stranger final, after success in 1962 was followed by being losing finalists a year later, before the side became defunct.

The last domestic senior cup final of the season features two sides who finished in the bottom half of the league, but who between them have claimed some notable scalps in the last few weeks.

Both sides are awaiting on injury and unavailability doubts before naming their starting XIs, perhaps most importantly Tics centre-back Gus Mackay, who faces a fitness test after tearing a quad against Rangers.
