Finance still among most wanted careers

BANKING is still a favoured career among islanders, according to local companies who were kept busy at yesterday’s Sigma Group Careers Show.
The finance companies also said as the global financial situation improved, more jobs were becoming available.
Fiona Colby of RBC Wealth Management said the problems with the economy had put pressure on local finance.
‘It has been a difficult time for all local companies, but we have coped through these testing times, and we are recruiting currently,’ she said.
‘Lots of people have been talking to us. Some of them have no idea what they want to do, so we have been offering some guidance.’

Great for those who can find a job nowadays in finance. But unfortunately I am one of those financial professionals who are still looking for a career opportunity in finance.

Lets face it, the only reason Finance is an attractive career is because it pays a lot better than most other jobs. Most people you talk to in the finance industry would love to get out if they could only find another less stressful or tedious job that pays similar money.

Money talks over fulfillment, morality, and true diversity for a better Guernsey.
Oh for a less affluent island that is not corrupted by the taint of ovet capitalism.

Andy, have you ever lived in a “less affluent” place? Where the unemployed number over 10% of the workforce, where street crime is rife, where drug abuse is common place?

Savas im in the same boat as you. Have 12 years experience in the Finance Industry but still cant get a job. I’m also with Betty shes right grew to hate the job in the end. My advice would be to do something else.
