Former pay body vice chair calls for laws to be reformed

LESSONS can be learnt from the findings of a report into the airport firefighters’ dispute, according to a union leader.
Unite regional industrial organiser Ron Le Cras (pictured) said that things had changed in the workplace and he hoped the States took on board its recommendations with regards to future pay negotiations.
Although the old approach may have worked 30 years ago, he said, ‘it obviously doesn’t work now’.
The independent Tribunal of Inquiry report into the situation that led to the airport effectively shutting on 25 May last year, was published on Friday. It found that the Public Sector Remuneration Committee had an outdated approach to negotiations and questioned their ‘one-size fits all’ methods.
The report also suggested PSRC be replaced and greater responsibility given to the Policy Council.
