THE Scrutiny Committee could have done a better job investigating the airport firefighters’ dispute than a Tribunal of Inquiry, Deputy Mike Garrett (pictured) has said.

The deputy Culture and Leisure minister and Scrutiny member said on the BBC Guernsey Sunday phone-in that the committee could also have done it for considerably less than £250,000.

‘I think we would perhaps have spent more time getting into the industrial relations side of things.’

He said there needed to be a complete change in the mentality of the way the States dealt with employees.

Commerce and Employment minister Carla McNulty Bauer said she supported a debate on the Tribunal’s report.
