THE planning authority is opposed to caravans and motor homes, according to one couple.
Margaret Robert and her sister, Jane Parsons, were unsuccessful with their appeal against the Environment Department’s decision not to let them create a campsite and motor home park, and reposition a greenhouse, on land to the rear of Mr and Mrs Robert’s home at Rue a Ronces, Castel.
The proposal was for seven motor homes annually and 16 pitches between March and October.
Mrs Robert’s husband, Peter, represented the family in front of an appeals panel.
Three objections were submitted to the application.
Mr Robert said he believed that the planners were fearful that if the proposal was approved, people could end up living permanently at the site.

I’m not 100% sure how many caravanner’s would come to Guernsey anyway, the cost of bringing one over is so high and you can hardly go anywhere with them.

hi this has been a long debate about camping if the members of states were to go camping in a classic vw whey would not be so uptight about life perhaps they should give up there fast cars in a island with a 25 mph speed limit thow they never will .so dont restrict people from haveing fun with kids in nature listen to all the wonderfull sounds of nature shooting stars at night these people will never under stand peace inside only sitting in office gazing out windows of life of something they lost in the past when they were children.

A Black Hole to fill but the silo mentality wins again.
Perhaps they are trying to get the potential caravaners to use the L’Ancresse facilities Mr Heinke cannot fill because of dropping visitor numbers ?

Come on Guernsey Tourism / Environment Dept / Commerce and Employment what are you playing at.?
A Guernsey family wanting to do something to benefit ‘tourists and locals alike’ by running a business from home.
They obviously made a planning application which was declined for whatever reasons and then went to appeal via this tribunal route.
According to the report, the Environment dept stated that allowing this proposed campsite would increase the value of the land.!!
So by parking a few campervans and putting up a tent or 2, adds value.? But hang on, only between March and October when its open.
But surely the Environment used other reasons, like its good agricultural land and would be a loss to local farmers or growers.
But does the land know when you put up a tent, or park a campervan and suddenly change to ‘not suitable’ for agriculture.
Its the same land, but with something using it for a temporary period.
( i reckon the land could be plowed within an hours notice to anyone in the way.!!)
So surely Environment used the ‘ there’s no demand for another campsite’ routine.
But i heard thro’ the Guernsey grapevine that the Fauxquets campsite has applied for an additional 12 pitches on a neighbouring field.!!
or maybe the neighbours complained about the noise and pollution caused by campervans and there occupants.
These mobile self-catering tourists, who are generally of the older generation, who seek peaceful holidays, glass of wine in hand watching the sunset before retiring before 10pm.!!!
( obviously there’s exceptions, some stay up later.!!)
but the underline story is campers are not welcome.
Why would’nt Guernsey welcome Tourist’s.
Oh thats simple…. Guernsey taxes anyone coming here on Holiday or a resident with a campervan, to use the Existing Guernsey camp-sites.
If you want to take your own vehicle to any existing local campsite, and use it during the summer, so supporting a local business you have to apply to the Environment Department and pay a fee.!!!
Not much, only £125 per visit or was that reduced to £42, not sure but essentially the message is…….
Visit Jersey, no holiday tax and your money is more than welcome.

The Island is not big enough for a load of campers driving aroun the island. And what aboput parking there is not enough room for cars let alone huge campers.

Camping, Motorhoming and caravaning are the in things throughout Europe. Here we have a failing tourist industry and the States even charge a fee for locals to visit a Guernsey site with their motorhome, that’s after an application to environment. Come on Guernsey pull your finger out and catch up with what’s going on in the world.

I’ve got it, why dont the states allow these vehicles in Guernsey so long as they fill up the rear with otherwise mont cuet rubbish on the way back to where ever they are going??!!?!
