Spruce will vote on new waste plan
Tuesday 27th April 2010, 2:30PM BST.
PUBLIC SERVICES board member Tony Spruce will vote on the department’s plan for a new waste strategy although he withdrew himself from helping to develop it, he has confirmed.
As pressure mounted on the department yesterday, with a possible vote of no confidence lurking, Deputy Spruce (pictured) sought to assure islanders that his vote would in no way affect whether the board agreed on a new strategy.
‘There are five board members, four of whom will work on the waste strategy and they are not going to vote against their own strategy, are they?
‘So when it comes to voting through the document as a board I will probably agree with it and vote because I don’t believe in abstaining and we need a waste strategy of some sort,’ he said.
‘If I don’t agree with it then I am entitled to vote against it but it is important to realise that my vote will not make any difference because all the other four board members will vote for it.’

Will he be returning the unused percentage of his States pay to the pot ?

If it’s not going to make any difference why don’t you leave, like you said you would? The tax payer are paying your wages, and if your vote doesn’t make a different then leave!!

I reckon Mr Spruce has worked out that the longer he stays, the more likely the whole department is brought down via a vote of no confidence. Politics.

So according to the press today, if a vote of no confidence is brought, it can only be brought against the whole committee and not just an individual.
In other words he is putting the whole committee in jeopardy for his own self interest. There should without doubt be a vote of no confidence as we need people on that committee dedicated to ensuring the waste strategy works and after the Spruce requete debacle I’m afraid there can be no confidence that he will not throw a spanner in the works again. The honourable way would be to step down now and let someone with enthusiasm for the waste problem take his place. I am sure they could cope with the other ongoing projects.

Isn’t it about time that those deputies or any other Civil servants, who disgrace or other wise cause breaches, then they should be sacked like any other employee.
The next election should make it quite clear that the troubles by this deplorable States will not be tolerated,
‘Get them out; they’re just laughing at all of you.

I have just played over again and again Spruce’s CTV interview of Tuesday 27 April
He said ” It’s the job of anybody that’s elected to take account of decisions taken by the States and work in their very best interest to achieve those end results. So I see no problem at all with that. It’s the same on any Committee that you’re involved in on the States. You have to go with the majority decision and do your best to achieve an end result ”
You can fool some of the people some of the time ….

I suggest that The States give a vote of no confidence in the committee and then vote the same committee back on with the exception of Spruce.
Then vote him off all the other committees he`s on to save him any further embarressment when he cocks it up again and you can bet your life he will if left.
