A GUERNSEY youngster hopes to become perhaps the island’s first professional wrestler.

Barry Carre, who is 18, has lived in Bedale in North Yorkshire for 10 years, but was born and bred in the island.

But he is aware of the work still needed to make it to the very top of his sport.

‘I’m about 12 stone at the moment, but ideally I want to get to around 15, which means controlling my diet and spending five days a week in the gym to turn it into muscle,’ he said.

Carre has been wrestling for around five years, with success that has taken him all over the UK, where the sport is much better known than in Guernsey.

However, ultimately it is stateside where he wants to ply his trade.
