L’Eree litter bugs deputy who wants to hit message home

THE Environment Department needs to bombard islanders with an anti-litter message to keep the beaches clean, according to a West District deputy.
Gloria Dudley-Owen (pictured), also a St Peter’s douzenier, said a simple message: ‘Keep our beaches clean, respect other beach users,’ needs to be spread following a recent experience at L’Eree.
‘I live right near the beach and walk it daily. I was left quite shocked by the litter on it the other day,’ she said. ‘On Monday, an area in which a group of teenagers had been having a barbecue was littered with cans and plastic bottles.
‘But the most shocking was a blue plastic bag containing dog faeces on the sand near the steps leading up to the ice cream van – the dog litter bin is only three metres away.’
Deputy Dudley-Owen said she finds the issue of litter on the beaches frustrating.
