No rip-off in roaming charges – regulator

ALTHOUGH islanders could pay much more than the European Commission’s maximum for roaming mobile calls, the Office of Utility Regulation is not going to intervene.
It said that the difference was not because of excessive pricing on the part of local mobile operators.
It carried out a review on the topic in 2009, but concluded that it was too early to intervene in the market directly as it wanted to see how competition developed following the commission’s decision in 2007 to set a cap on roaming charges.
There is no such cap locally.

As a loyal Airtel-Vodafone pay monthly customer i gotta say HA HA!!! I am yet to pay a roaming bill as you only pay if you make calls, they are free to receive. Granted some countries are difficult to roam in ;-)
And no, i don’t work for their marketing department !!!
