‘Firefighters’ deal won’t open the floodgates’

Saturday 1st May 2010, 2:29PM BST.

THE airport firefighters’ settlement will not open the floodgates for heavy-handed tactics from other public sector groups, according to the States’ pay body.

Public Sector Remuneration Committee chairman Allister Langlois said yesterday he was confident the workers the committee dealt with were reasonable and had a realistic view of the economy and States’ expenditure.

Former PSRC member Barry Brehaut has said the new deal could give firefighters a 16% or more pay rise, while teachers and public sector employees had less than 1%.

The new agreement includes a 7.8% increase in pensionable pay for the highest grade, a non-pensionable payment of 3% of basic salary every three years and a non-pensionable payment of 3% of basic salary for meeting training requirements every four years.

The deal also introduces a standby payment, details of which have not been released.

    WRONG!!!

Think about it – you’re on the States payroll, and people under the same senior management take a 16% payrise. What would you do?!

This artical insinuates that the Airport Firemen used heavy-handed tactics in the dispute with the PSRC. Despite the fact they were cleared of any blame by an independent Tribunal of Inquiry.
Clearly a case of not letting the facts get in the way of you writing what you want people to beleive.
