A SUSPENDED sergeant is the subject of a ‘witch-hunt’ by Guernsey Police, an officer in the force has claimed.

According to the source, Sergeant James Priest, who has led Alderney Police for 16 months, has fallen out of favour with his Guernsey bosses following constant criticism from senior officers.

He was suspended last week following a complaint by a member of the public and has been the subject of an investigation by the Police Professional Standards Department. A report on Sgt Priest’s conduct is expected in the middle of this month, by which time a behind-closed-doors hearing will have taken place.

The source said Sgt Priest had become dismayed with Guernsey Police’s unprofessional attitude and dated practices.

A Guernsey Police spokesman said: ‘It would be inappropriate to comment at this time.’
