It’s a good deal for the airport, says firefighters’ union official
Monday 3rd May 2010, 2:29PM BST.
THE airport firefighters’ union representative has described the new pay deal as good for the people of Guernsey.
But Unite regional industrial organiser Ron Le Cras would not be drawn on claims that the agreement amounted to a 16% rise.
The deal was announced in the States on Thursday as a package of measures that would address issues, including retention, and guarantee fire cover at the airport.
‘We’ve reviewed the whole working arrangements of the Airport Fire Service from top to bottom. This is the deal we came up with to ensure the smooth running of the airport fire service,’ said Mr Le Cras (pictured).
‘The working hours, on call, the retention, all needed to be reviewed; we’ve done that, and come up with what we think is a very comprehensive package for the good of the Airport Fire Service, the good of the airport and the good of the people of Guernsey.’
